Anthony J. Calandra
Beloved Brother, Son, Uncle and Friend

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony J. Calandra, age 55, who left us far too soon. Anthony passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4th, 2025 and is survived by loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.

Born on July 12, 1970 in Mineola, NY, Anthony was a spirited and generous soul who lived life with authenticity, strength, and humor. He was a devoted son, a fiercely loyal brother, and a friend you could count on in every storm.

Anthony was known for his sharp wit, his deep compassion, and a heart that quietly looked out for others. He had a remarkable way of making people feel seen, whether through a perfectly timed joke or a quiet gesture of kindness. He lived by his own rules but always made room for others in his world.

Anthony worked in healthcare transportation and was loved by the people he served due to his compassion and his ability to bring a bit of joy into their lives, no matter the challenges they faced.

He had a love for strength training, sports, food – He would hunt down the best of any food in the five boroughs and beyond and bring it home insisting we all had to try it. His impressions of family, friends and various celebrities; he loved nothing more than to entertain us all. He never outgrew his love of freestyle music and breakdancing. Those who knew him will remember his strength, his resilience, and the tenderness that lay beneath his tough exterior.

Anthony is survived by his father, Michael A. Calandra and his wife, Anna Calandra, his sister, Catherine Calandra Passarelli and her husband, John, his brother Michael A. Calandra, Jr. and his wife, Kristin, his step-sister, Kristena Mesquita and her husband, Ski, and his step-brother, Daniel Basile. Anthony is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Leanne and Michael (Macaione), Skyla and Sienna (Mesquita) and Emily and Lucas (Calandra). They were the loves of his life and always his #1. He is also survived by his many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his mother, Jacqueline R. Calandra, who passed in 2016.

Visiting will be Friday from 4-8pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10am at St. Clare’s Church, 1918 Paulding Avenue, Bronx. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement at Graymoor

He will be missed more than words can express—but never forgotten. His spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the lessons he taught, and the love he left behind.
