It is with heavy hearts that I announce the passing of my father, José A. Elias, who passed away on October 4, 2024. Born on June 26, 1949, my father lived a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, my mother, Betty Elias, who was his rock and greatest love throughout their 50 years of marriage. He leaves behind my brother, José Elias Jr., and me, Christian Nieves, who both cherished him deeply. He was also a beloved grandfather to Johnathan, Danny Ramirez, Parker Nieves, Mason Nieves, and Emersyn Nieves, as well as to his twin granddaughters, Aracely and Yaritza Elias, who lived with him, and their sister, Lily Elias.
In his retirement, my father found immense joy in traveling, splitting his time between his cherished home in Ecuador and visiting my home in Wisconsin, where he spent time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. Nothing brought him more happiness than being a grandfather. He was a playful, loving, and caring “Grandad,” always relishing every moment spent with his grandchildren. His family was his pride and joy, and his devotion to us was boundless.
To all who knew him, my father was a kind, generous, and devoted friend, father, and grandfather. He had a unique way of touching everyone’s life, and his presence will be sorely missed by many. He was the kind of man who valued joy and connection above all, and he always encouraged those around him to live life to the fullest.
Not long before his passing, my father shared with my mother how content he was with the life he had lived. He felt he had lived a full, complete life and was happy with how things had turned out. While we mourn his loss, we find comfort in knowing that he would want us to remember the good times we shared with him and to celebrate the happiness he brought to all of us.
My father’s legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Wherever he is now, I know he is at peace, smiling, and watching over us with a lot of love.
Visiting will be Friday from 9am to 11am at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx.
