Joseph William (Joe) Reda, a lifelong resident of the Bronx, died on October 13, 2023. He was 87.
Mr. Reda was born on May 22, 1936 in the Bronx to the late Louis and Florence (Gammella) Reda. He was a founding member of the Morris Park Community Association; a founding member and longtime President of the 49th Precinct Community Council; and a longtime member of Community Board 11. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and worked as a stationary fireman at Jacobi Hospital for 31 years before his retirement.
He loved the Yankees, the Rangers, the beach, and traveling (especially his annual trips to Cancun and legendary summers in Wildwood). He was so proud of his Bronx roots, his Italian heritage, and most importantly, his family, whom he loved more than anything.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann, and his three children, Louis (Darlene), Robin (Christopher), and Michael (Rachel). He had nine grandchildren (Joseph, Christopher, Jessica, Steven, Ava, John, Matthew, Michael, and Reagan), as well as several loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting will be Tuesday from 4-8pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11am at St. Clare’s Church, 1027 Rhinelander Avenue, Bronx. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne.
