It has pleased our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to call to Himself His servant Linda Marie Meyer Schmidt. She had been recovering from a fall and fighting a bad infection since February but began declining over her last week. On Friday, August 28th, her fight was over, and she was taken to be with our Lord, no longer suffering but rejoicing.
A life-long New Yorker, she was raised in Ridgewood, Queens by Herman J. Meyer and Ruth Meyer along with three sisters, Barbara, Christine, and Nancy. Graduating from Martin Luther High School before going to Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas. After college she became a teacher first at Redeemer, Bayside followed by Our Saviour, Bronx, and then the remainder and bulk of her career at PS 93 in the South Bronx. Through the years she taught lower grades, ran the Library, and even the computer room for a brief period. The teaching profession gave her great joy and fulfillment. After her retirement from teaching, she became a tax preparer and enjoyed her time at the HCS Tax Agency helping people navigate the IRS tax return system.
She married John Schmidt on August 8, 1978 and they had two children. Michael was born in 1981 and Matthew in 1983. The family was located in the Morris Park section of the Bronx and attended Our Saviour Lutheran Church and School, where John was the High School Principal. She cherished them greatly. She had the honor of another great calling in life as a grandmother to Theo, Paul, and Annabelle.
In her spare time, she enjoyed doing puzzles, catching up with friends, reading, listening to music, and watching Hallmark movies.
She is survived by John, her husband of 48 years, her children Michael and his wife Lindsey, and Matthew, grandchildren Theo, Paul, and Annabelle, sisters Barbara, Christine, and Nancy, countless students she helped along the way, and many dear friends.
