Vianela Antonia Infante Taveras, lovingly known by many as the heart of her family, passed away surrounded by the love she spent a lifetime giving to others. She was born on May 4, 1941, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, to her parents, Sixta Lucia Gomez Infante and Julio Enrique Infante. She grew up alongside her 11 siblings in a large, loving family that remained deeply important to her throughout her life.
As a young woman, she met the love of her life in her hometown, and together they built a beautiful marriage that lasted over 70 years; a love story rooted in loyalty, strength, sacrifice, and devotion. Around 1965, they immigrated to the United States with their two daughters, Rada Taveras and Daisy Taveras, in search of greater opportunities and a better future for their family. Together they continued growing their family and welcomed two more daughters, Damaris Taveras and Yadira Taveras.
Vianela and her husband were hardworking entrepreneurs who built businesses together, including a clothing store, a dry-cleaning business, and later a beauty salon and beauty supply store. She had a true talent for sales and never missed an opportunity to sell clothing, purses, coquito, or just about anything she believed someone needed. If there was a customer nearby, she was ready. Her charisma, determination, and hustle were simply part of who she was.
Above all, Vianela loved her family fiercely. She was a proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her endless joy. Anyone who attended a party or family gathering hosted by her knew there would always be an abundance of food, laughter, loud conversations, and love. Family meant everything to her.
She especially loved traveling with her family and would already be asking about the next trip before the current one ended. One of her favorite traditions was piling everyone into the car while making her brother drive the family to Florida, stopping in every state possible to take pictures and make memories along the way.
Vianela had her own unforgettable way of showing love. She could be tough, outspoken, and brutally honest (often all at once) but behind every strong word was someone who cared deeply for the people she loved. Her love was protective, genuine, and constant, even if it sometimes came with unsolicited advice.
Though her family’s hearts are heavy with her loss, they find peace in knowing she is reunited in heaven with the love of her life, watching over her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren together once again. Her legacy of strength, resilience, humor, hard work, and unconditional love will live on through every generation she helped build.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
Visiting will be Thursday, May 28 from 4-8pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Family and friends will be gathering at the funeral home on Friday, May 29 at 9am with the entombment following at Woodlawn Cemetery, East 233rd Street and Webster Avenue, Bronx.

Siendo joven, conoció al amor de su vida en su pueblo natal, y juntos construyeron un hermoso matrimonio de más de 70 años, una historia de amor basada en la lealtad, la fortaleza, el sacrificio y la devoción. Alrededor del año 1965, emigraron a los Estados Unidos junto a sus dos hijas, Rada Taveras y Daisy Taveras, en busca de mayores oportunidades y un mejor futuro para su familia. Más adelante continuaron creciendo su familia y dieron la bienvenida a sus otras dos hijas, Damaris Taveras y Yadira Taveras.
Vianela y su esposo fueron emprendedores trabajadores que construyeron varios negocios juntos, incluyendo una tienda de ropa, un negocio de lavandería y tintorería, y más adelante un salón de belleza y tienda de productos de belleza. Ella tenía un talento natural para las ventas y nunca dejaba pasar la oportunidad de vender ropa, carteras, coquito o cualquier cosa que creyera que alguien necesitaba. Si había un posible cliente cerca, ella siempre estaba lista. Su carisma, determinación y espíritu trabajador eran simplemente parte de quien era.
Por encima de todo, Vianela amaba profundamente a su familia. Fue una orgullosa abuela de 8 nietos y bisabuela de 9 bisnietos, quienes llenaron su vida de alegría. Todo el que asistía a una fiesta o reunión familiar organizada por ella sabía que nunca faltaría comida, risas, conversaciones en voz alta y mucho amor. La familia lo era todo para ella.
Le encantaba especialmente viajar con su familia y siempre preguntaba cuándo sería el próximo viaje antes de que terminara el actual. Una de sus tradiciones favoritas era llenar el carro con toda la familia mientras hacía que su hermano manejara hasta Florida, deteniéndose en cada estado posible para tomar fotos y crear recuerdos inolvidables.
Vianela tenía una manera muy especial e inolvidable de demostrar amor. Podía ser fuerte, directa y brutalmente honesta (a veces todo al mismo tiempo) pero detrás de cada palabra había una persona que realmente se preocupaba profundamente por los que amaba. Su amor era protector, genuino y constante, aunque a veces viniera acompañado de consejos no solicitados.
Aunque el corazón de su familia está lleno de tristeza por su partida, encuentra paz al saber que ahora está reunida en el cielo con el amor de su vida, cuidando juntos de sus hijos, nietos y bisnietos. Su legado de fortaleza, resiliencia, humor, trabajo duro y amor incondicional vivirá para siempre en cada generación que ayudó a formar.
Será profundamente extrañada, eternamente amada y jamás olvidada
