Juan Santiago was born in the town of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico on June 12, 1942. He was the son of Mr. Tomás Santiago and Mrs. María Eugenia Marrero. They had seven children named Felix, Pura, Manuel, Juan, Julio, Milagros, and Sandra. He grew up in the neighborhood of El Cristo in San Juan Puerto Rico and they affectionately called him Neydie. Juan liked sports, especially Baseball and Boxing. His favorite fighter was Mohamed Ali and the favorite team started with the Mets but got tired of losing with them and switched to the Yankees. Juan at age 20, married Norma Iris Figueroa and they had three daughters and a son-in-law. Maribel Santiago, Naida Mercedes Santiago and Norma Santiago whose husband is Marco Antonio De La Rosa. They had four grandchildren whose names are Rachel Carrero, Alex Mercedes whose wife is Rachel, John Jeremy Cruz, and Jonathan Peter Medina. They had three great-grandchildren Aiyana Nayann Mercedes, Bryson Alex Mercedes, and Carter Alex Mercedes. Juan and Norma worked to support their family, in a factory, supermarket, and in a jewelry shop. In 1984 God called him to become a Pastor. When he was on the street drinking with his friends one day he heard a voice call his name while drinking on the way to do a service in the street at 10:00 at night. Listening to the preaching of a Pastor, he recognized that the Lord was calling him. The message is based on John 6:37. “Everything the Father gives me will come to me; and he who comes to me, I will not throw him out”. The next day he visited the church whose Pastor was Rev. Cardona. During the first two years he went to church alone – but he maintained his faith that his wife was going to come to the ways of the Lord. After two years his wife Norma came to the ways of the Lord. They were serving the Lord in the Church of all Todas las Almas. After the six years they served the Lord in the Second Jerusalem church. After the year Juan and Norma opened their first work called Second Jerusalem Pentecostal Mission, located at 1228 Southern Boulevard in the Bronx. After 10 years there they moved with the Lord’s permission to a larger location called Centro Cristiano Emanuel at 2612 Third Ave in Bronx. For 35 years Juan Santiago was the Pastor of the church Centro Cristiano Emanuel until his last breath. As a husband, as a father, and as a Pastor, he was a great example for his family and for the brothers and sisters of the faith. On this day we do not mourn his death but we celebrate his life, a very happy life. Full of many good memories with his family and the church. We thank God for him, and for his love. We will never forget him. We will not say goodbye to you but we will say until later. Neydie, Dad, and Pastor.
