Sunrise: July 1, 1968 – Sunset: July 1, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Michele Lee Cruz, who left this world peacefully on the morning of her 57th birthday after a brave and dignified battle with cancer.
Born in New York City and raised in the Bronx, Michele embodied the resilience, resourcefulness, and heart that define her hometown. She faced every chapter of her life with quiet strength, deep compassion, and a selfless spirit that lifted everyone around her.
Michele’s professional journey was a reflection of her deep love for people—especially children—and her desire to make a meaningful difference. She began her career at Bronx Lebanon Hospital, where her nurturing nature made a lasting impression. After moving to Long Island, she opened her own childcare business, dedicating herself to creating a safe and loving environment for young children. Later, she earned her professional license as a colorist and beautician, bringing her creativity, warmth, and gift for connection to each client she served. Michele had a remarkable ability to excel at anything she set her mind to, always guided by her faith and the best interests of others.
Michele was also a tireless advocate beyond her work. She was actively involved in support communities for caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer’s and those affected by Chiari malformation, offering support, hope, and heartfelt encouragement to many. Her compassion extended to animals as well—she worked closely with rescue organizations, personally saving, transporting, and rehoming countless animals. Her beloved dogs, Athena, Blu, and Chance, were among those she rescued and adored, and their memory remained close to her heart.
Michele was preceded in death by her cherished grandmother, Zaida Perez, and her faithful companions, Athena, Blu, and Chance.
She is survived by her devoted mother, Marina Lugo; her steadfast and loving father, Joseph Cruz; her loving daughter, Jaclyn Gulino; and her treasured granddaughter, Lily Gulino, who brought her boundless joy. She also leaves behind her brother, Victor Beris; her sisters, Kim Cruz and Jennifer Cruz; her aunts, Margaret Piñero and Miriam Cintrón; and her cousins and lifelong confidants, Kim Cruz-Riozzi and Jeannette Piñero. Her family and friends all walked beside her with unwavering love and support throughout her journey.
She is also remembered by a wide circle of extended family, dear friends, and a compassionate support community who admired her strength and the light she shared with the world.
Though Michele may be gone in body, her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the animals she saved, and the hearts of all who loved her. She was loved beyond measure, and she will never be forgotten.
