Pearl Munro, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born in St. George’s, Grenada, to Avis Munro and Desmond Best, Pearl lived a life defined by resilience, determination, and unwavering devotion to her family. She began her professional career as a nurse in Grenada before migrating to the United States in 1969 in pursuit of greater opportunities for herself and her loved ones.
Upon settling in New York City, Pearl worked multiple jobs while building a new life in a new country. Through hard work and perseverance, she earned an associate degree and went on to serve the people of New York City through more than twenty years of employment with city government before retiring in 2012.
The early years of her journey in America were marked by sacrifice and hardship. Yet Pearl’s strength, determination, and faith enabled her to overcome every obstacle. She achieved the dream she had worked so hard for, becoming a homeowner and landlord and creating stability and opportunity for future generations of her family.
Pearl found great joy in spending time with those she loved. She enjoyed family dinners, attending the theater, and traveling, especially cruising with coworkers, family, and friends. One of her greatest pleasures was creating special memories with her grandchildren. Each year, she dedicated a week to vacationing with them, alternating between cruises and trips to Disneyland. These cherished traditions created laughter, adventure, and lifelong bonds.
A woman of deep faith, Pearl was a devoted member of St. Raymond’s and later Holy Cross Church. She attended Mass faithfully each Sunday and drew strength and comfort from her Catholic faith throughout her life.
Above all else, Pearl was a fierce protector, tireless advocate, trusted confidante, and constant source of strength for those she loved. Her generosity, wisdom, resilience, and unconditional love shaped the lives of her daughters and grandchildren and touched all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Pearl is survived by her daughters, Christiana Best-Giacomini and Dianne Munro; her son-in-law, Paul Giacomini; her grandchildren, Brandon Cummings and Miranda Munro; and her brother, Karl Prescott of Trinidad. She was preceded in death by her parents, her adopted mother, Rosanna Fedrick and her brothers Godfrey and Hollis Prescott.
Pearl’s legacy lives on in the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the values of perseverance, love, faith, and compassion that she instilled in those around her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit remains present in the hearts of all who loved her.
She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
