Renee Hennessy, a lifelong resident of the Bronx, passed away on March 12, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was 79.
Renee was born on September 11, 1941 in the Bronx to the late Angelo and Theresa (Casale) Lauria. She was the beloved mother of Susan Calagna and her husband John, Donna Schmidt and her husband Richie, and Rich Hennessy and his wife Kristi. Renee spent her life caring for her family and her favorite job was being a grandmother. Nicknamed G-Ma, she will be missed terribly by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michael Calagna and his wife Jenn, Andrew Calagna and his wife Lisa, Richie, Nicky, Danny, Michele, and Theresa Schmidt, Megan and Erin Hennessy, Gianna Villano and Jack Calagna. She was pre-deceased by her brother Ralphie Lauria. She was a friend to many, and enjoyed playing mahjong, cards and bingo. Her pizzelles were always a hit at gatherings and her Christmas cookies were the highlight of Christmas Eve dinners. Her watch has ended.
Visiting will be Monday, March 15, 2021 from 4-8pm, with a funeral service at 7pm, at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Interment will take place on Tuesday at 11am at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Renee will be accepted by Paws Crossed , 100 Warehouse Lane, Elmsford, New York 10523.
