
EVA CHRISTINE JONES
(1934-2025)
Eva Christine Jones, was born in Moncks Corner, South Carolina, on December 24th 1934, daughter of the late Mrs. Beulah (Rivers) Settle and Mr. Mack Sirtie. Eva was the oldest of four children which includes Pandora Settle of Brooklyn New York, Evelyn White (deceased) of Brooklyn New York, and Ruth-Ann Howard (Roy) of Sacramento California.
As a child, Eva Christine Jones, lived with her grandparents, Lillie and Richard Rivers in Moncks Corner, South Carolina. Eva was a pleasant and happy child, always full of laughter. She received her formal education in the public school system in South Carolina, and graduated from Newport Pacific High School. Eva began her walk with the Lord at an early age. As a teenager, she was baptized, and attended Anderson Baptist Church on a regular basis, with her grandparents. She truly loved the Lord. She participated in all of the church activities. She enjoyed helping out, singing and praising the Lord.
As an adult, Eva relocated to New York in 1952. she met and married Mr. Willis Jones on January 3, 1955. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2005. They did not have any children of their own. However, the Lord blessed Eva, to become the godmother to Daniel Garland and his 3 children, who she loved dearly.
Eva Christine Jones was a woman of style and class. She had a gift for making and decorating hats. Eventhough, her favorite color was blue, she wore these stylish hats in many colors. She made hats, for family members as well as friends. They all loved her fashionable hats. She also enjoyed cooking meals and baking. One of her specialty was baking yum yum bread, that everyone loved and enjoyed. Eva, would often travel to South Carolina. She liked, staying connected with family and friends. Whenever she went to visit her mother Beulah in Philadelphia PA, Eva would always stock-up on the hoagie sandwiches. She was definitely hooked on those famous hoagie sandwiches from Philly, and so were her friends. They just couldn’t get enough. Eva had a wonderful sense of humor. She was quick-witted and liked by many people. She was non-pretentious and possessed a love for humankind. Eva, was a caring person, who would give her all to help those in need. She often encouraged others to do better, and gave meaningful advice, especially to the youths in her neighborhood. Eva’s unconditional love for children led her into a career at the Rockland Children’s Psychiatric Center. As a Mental Hygiene Therapy Aid. She became a dedicated and compassionate worker, who executed leadership abilities. Eva’s, work performance, led her to receive many honorable awards, certificates and recognition, throughout her 35 years of service. Her dedication and zealous work ethics were outstanding. She retired in 1990, from a job that she truly loved.
Eva, lived a comfortable and secure life until her passing. She departed this life here on earth, when the Lord called her home, on August 12th 2025 at 10:00am, in Montefiore Hospital. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Eva leaves behind, to cherish her memory: two sisters Pandora Settle of Brooklyn New York and Ruth-Ann Howard of Sacramento California, Godson Daniel Garland and his three children, Tatyana, Skyler, and Xavier Garland of Washington State, Aunt Rebecca Pugh of Baltimore MD, nine nieces and nephews Terryl Collins of Canton Oh, Charlotte Royal of Brooklyn NY, Dorether Settle-Colon of New Jersey, Floyd Bennett of Miami FL, Pangie Settle of Bronx NY, Robert Settle of Brooklyn NY , Heath Darnell Cunningham of San Ramon CA, Antoinette White of Queens NY, and Anthony White of Brooklyn NY. Plus a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visiting will be Wednesday from 10am to 12pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx.
