Maria Elena Ruiz passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025. A longtime resident of the Bronx, New York, Maria was originally from Puerto Rico—a heritage she carried with pride and grace. She was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor, and friend, and her presence was a guiding light in the lives of so many who knew her.

Maria was a pillar in her family. With unwavering love and devotion, she cared for her parents, her children, and her grandchildren. Her selflessness was not simply a trait but a way of life. Yet, she was much more than a caretaker. Maria was a woman of strength, kindness, and quiet artistry.

In her early years, she worked diligently in places like the telephone company and L.L. Bean, always providing for those she loved. But behind her humble demeanor was a gifted creative. Maria was a talented painter, illustrator, and photographer with a remarkable eye for capturing the beauty of nature. Her hands could transform the simplest object into something breathtaking—there was no piece of furniture she couldn’t restore or revive.

Maria was a confidante, a trusted advisor, and a cherished friend. Her warmth, wisdom, and generosity touched everyone around her. She found joy in dancing, laughter, and the little moments that made life beautiful. Her laugh was contagious.

She is survived by her loving mother, Leonida, and her siblings who affectionately called her Cuca. She also leaves behind her devoted children—Lee, Maralis, and Nicky—and her seven beloved grandchildren: Joseph, Evan Michael, Elise Marseille, Anderlyn, Madison Marie, Laylani, and Junior. She poured boundless love into each of them, nurturing their lives with tenderness, strength, and joy.

Maria’s legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the lessons she imparted—many of them unspoken, yet deeply felt. Her memory will be carried forward through generations, a testament to a life well lived and deeply loved.

Two quotes beautifully capture the essence of Maria’s life:

“To know even one life breathed easier because she lived is to know she truly succeeded while here.”

“A mother holds her children’s hands for a while, their hearts forever.”

Rest peacefully, Maria, among the angels and with those who went before you. You are remembered, honored, and celebrated every single day.
