Maria Tarantino, a longtime resident of the Bronx, died on July 7, 2025. She was 87.

Mrs. Tarantino was born on November 15, 1937, in Italy to the late Domenico and Rose (Pulice) Barone. She is predeceased by her husband, Francesco Tarantino, who died on February 4, 2019. She was also predeceased by her daughters, Louisa Tarantino and Francesca Logrippo. Maria is survived by her sons, Giovanni and Alfonso Tarantino; her daughter, Josephine Sicilia; her daughters-in-law, Marisol and Georgette Tarantino; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Maria loved gardening, cooking, and making her famous sauce. She always put her family first and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Strong, sassy, and with a big heart, she left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. She would always say, “Are you hungry?” and “This is my baby” — simple phrases that perfectly captured her warmth, love, and care.

Maria was a loving mother, grandmother, cherished friend, and the heart of our family. Her love was a constant source of warmth and comfort. She touched the lives of many with her kindness, and we will cherish her memory always.

Visiting will be Sunday, July 13 and Monday, July 14 from 4–8pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx.
