Jose, more affectionately known as Abuelito, was a caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Born in Cayey, Puerto Rico in 1932, he was raised by his great-grandmother. He then moved to New York City in the late 40s and he was brought up by his uncle. He met his wife through mutual friends here in NYC. They were married a few years later in 1955 and had their first child in 1959.
In his younger days, Jose loved music and to dance. His favorite type of music was salsa. Although quiet and reserved, he spoke when needed; he was an amazing listener and was extremely smart. He was a great provider for his family and was an extremely loving husband.

He is survived by his wife, Jacinta, his daughter and son, Yolanda and Nelson, and his grandchildren, Antonio and Anjelica.
