Assunta “Susan” Rubino suddenly passed away on December 27, 2024, at the age of 77, in the Bronx, New York.

Assunta was born on October 22, 1947, in Spignio Saturnia, Italy. She immigrated to the United States in 1967 with her parents and younger sister. They settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but it was in Italy where she met the love of her life, Mario. Mario had immigrated to the Bronx, New York, earlier that same year. He proposed to her after learning of her arrival in the United States. They married in March of 1969, and Assunta relocated to the Bronx. There, they built a life together, raised their family, and remained surrounded by loved ones for the rest of her life.

Assunta dedicated over 30 years to the NYC Board of Education, working her way up from school aide to becoming an administrative assistant to the Principal of Evander Childs High School here in the Bronx.

She was the devoted and cherished wife of Mario Rubino for 55 years and a loving mother to her daughter Gabriella, son Michael, son-in-law Tony, and daughter-in-law Nicole. Assunta’s heart was full of love for her family, and she was especially proud of her three grandsons, Ryan, Logan, and Joey, who brought her immeasurable joy and happiness.

Assunta is survived by her loving sisters Teresa, Rosa, Leonilde, and Franca, as well as her brother-in-law Augusto, sisters-in-law Ida and Martie, and her many nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Matilde and Luigi Tedesco, her in-laws, Maria Assunta and Michele Rubino, her sisters Angela, Pasqualina, and Assunta (whom she was named after), her brothers-in-law Tomasso, Raffaele, Domenico, Carlo, Franco, Pasquale and Silvio, whom she will be reunited with in Heaven.

Assunta will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Visiting will be Thursday from 4-8pm at John Dormi & Sons Funeral Home, 1121 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 9:45am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 627 East 187th Street, Bronx. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne.

Aunt Sue was always so sweet and loving every time I saw her. She always made me laugh and introduced me to some delicious zucchini flowers and figs from her fig tree a couple years ago. We will miss her so much!
