Carmen Lydia Sotomayor, aged 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 4, 2024 in Stamford, CT. Born on May 3, 1931, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Carmen Lydia spent the majority of her life and raised her family in the Bronx section of New York City.
Carmen Lydia worked as a retail associate at United retail stores on Southern Blvd. before embracing her role as a childcare provider, both in her home and at the after-school program at Iglesia Evangélica de Co-op City, where she was an active member for many years.
She is survived by her loving daughter Miriam, son-in-law Michael and beloved son Miguel and his family. Carmen Lydia leaves behind cherished memories for her grandchildren: Corinne, Nelson, Edwin, and Adam, as well as her great-grandchildren: Logan, Paige, and Layla. She is preceded in death by her beloved sons, Nelson and Edwin.
Carmen Lydia’s viewing will be held on Saturday, March 9th, from 4-8 pm, with a memorial service commencing at 7 pm at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home located at 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, New York 10462. Her final resting place will be at sea in the summer, followed by a celebration of life luncheon (date and location TBD).
Carmen Lydia will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

Carmen Lydia Sotomayor, de 92 años, falleció pacíficamente rodeada de su familia el 4 de marzo de 2024 en Stamford, CT. Nacida el 3 de mayo de 1931 en Santurce, Puerto Rico, Carmen Lydia pasó la mayor parte de su vida y crió a su familia en el sector del Bronx en la ciudad de Nueva York.
Carmen Lydia trabajó como asociada de ventas en las tiendas United en Southern Blvd. antes de asumir su papel como proveedora de cuidado infantil, tanto en su hogar como en el programa después de la escuela en la Iglesia Evangélica de Co-op City, donde fue miembro activa durante muchos años.

Ms Sotomayor was my neighbor and friend. We were fast friends from the beginning. Her wonderful spirit and beautiful smile will me missed. She touched the hearts of myself and my family and will be missed deeply but know we will always keep your memory alive. Although my heart is saddened I am joyous you are whole again with Christ.
