Elena Horigan (nee Catanese), 92 years old, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt, Grand Aunt, and Great Grand Aunt, passed away peacefully at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, NY, the night of December 31st, 2024.
Elena Catanese was born on June 17,1932 to Salvatore and Antonina Catanese. A proud, lifelong resident of the Bronx, Elena met Jeremiah Horigan, the love of her life, at age 14. They were married 7 years later, on May 3, 1953. Together, they raised two children, Jeremiah Jr. and Nancy.
Elly will always be remembered for her strong, independent spirit and her boundless devotion to family and friends. Her stories brought smiles to those who knew her, while her wisdom provided them inspiration to battle through tough times.
Elly is preceded in death by her parents, Salvatore and Antonina, her husband, Jerry, her sisters, Anne, Josie, Santa, and Nina, and her brothers, Joe and George.
She is survived by her children, Jerry Horigan (Veronica), Nancy DiPaola (Steve), her grandchildren, Lee McGuire, JJ Horigan (Jess), Mark DiPaola, Christopher Horigan, and Giana Horigan, and her great grandchildren, Rylan, Harper, Lincoln and Logi.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am to 12pm on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx, New York 10462.
Elena will then be reunited with her loving husband, Jerry, at 12:45pm at New St Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, New York 10465.

I will miss her too. She was always fun to talk to on our several trips from the Bronx to NJ and was always really sweet to me whenever we saw each other. She will be missed by her family and friends and may she rest in peace. ❤️

Nancy, Your Mom sounds so special. Lee has spoken of her often and I’m sorry I never got to meet her. My best to you all.
