Giovannina “Jennie” Sacino (neé Giordano) passed away at the age of 101 in her Bronx, New York home on Friday, October 18, 2024.
Born in Manhattan on July 12, 1923 to Leo and Mary Giordano, Jennie was a life-long New Yorker who grew up in the close-knit Italian American community of East Harlem, where she met her husband of 74 years, the late Jim Sacino. They married in June of 1947. She worked as a seamstress as a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers’ Union to support herself and her family until her retirement in 1993. Jennie was a model of selfless devotion to family and took pride in working hard to care for her loved ones, exemplified by her masterful cooking which was appreciated by so many for so long. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City with her husband, sisters- and brothers-in-law, and was a committed Yankees fan.
Jennie was predeceased by her parents, brothers Dominick, Salvatore “Butch,” Leo, and Paddy, sisters Lena, Rose, and Dora, husband Jim, and beloved son Joseph. She is survived by devoted daughter Marie, adoring grandsons Jay (Genesis), Matthew (Michael), and Mark Ehrlich (Samantha), and cherished great grandsons Kevin and Corey, along with countless nieces and nephews. Her family remains grateful to Drupadi Danger and MaryAnn Reynoso, skilled caretakers who aided Jennie in her final years of life. Although Jennie will be dearly missed, she will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
