Michael J Schmatz Jr

Michael J. Schmatz, Jr., a lifelong resident of the Bronx, passed suddenly at home on December 25, 2022. He was 65 years old.

Michael was born to the late Michael J. Schmatz, Sr. and the late Delores Hornak on February 20, 1957 . Michael was the eldest of four children. He was pre-deceased by his brother Kennth Schmatz in 1964 and his only sister Debbie Schmatz on October 3, 1995.

Michael was the beloved and devoted husband to his wife Helen Schuck Schmatz- his childhood sweetheart of 48 years; the beloved and proud father to Michael J. Schmatz III; cherished and beloved grandfather to Michael J.Schmatz IV and his only granddaughter Zoey Schmatz; his brother John Schmatz and his wife Cathy; and beloved and proud uncle to Ronnie Welch and Billy Welch.

Visiting will be Thursday 4-8pm at Joseph A. Lucchese Funeral Home, 726 Morris Park Avenue, Bronx. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 9:30am at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 1634 Mahan Avenue, Bronx. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx.

    I am deeply saddened by the News of Mickey’s passing. We have been keeping in touch through FB over the years…I am so sorry for your Loss. He was a Great Guy.     Mickey we worked together at CCPD for 29 years and were both let go in May 2013.We stayed in touch talking to each other at least once every two weeks for the past 10 years.Mickey you were one of the best people I ever knew and I am a better person for having you in my life.My prayers are for Helen,Mike,& your entire family and all friends of Mickey.I love you Mickey and will forever miss you my brother in blue.
